How to integrate sustainability in large bachelor courses

Hello mechanics teachers!

For our next event, all focused on sustainability in Mechanics education, PRIMECH is happy to invite on stage Monika Roeling (TU Delft Sustainability Education Researcher) and Daniel Peeters (Assistant Professor in AE).

WHEN: 16th of May, 12.30 to 13.30

WHERE: Teaching Lab, Building 32a▾

WHAT:

Monika Roeling (Sustainability Education Researcher): Wondering what is TU Delft doing about Education for Sustainability? Monika is a key contributor to the TU Delft Sustainability Project (https://www.tudelft.nl/en/sustainability), focusing on the Education for Sustainability theme. During her presentation, she will offer a comprehensive overview of the project's initiatives to date and its future plans in this domain. She will present the inventory of TU Delft courses showcasing sustainability topics in their content, which she created in collaboration with students from GreenTU and the GreenTeams of each faculty. Building on this inventory, she will present a framework she is developing based on Engineering for One Planet (EOP), which will serve as a guideline for integrating more sustainability into TU Delft education by 2030. Additionally, she will introduce resources that mechanics teachers can immediately take advantage of to incorporate more sustainability into their own courses.

Daniel Peeters (Assistant Professor in AE): Daniel will present his sustainability-themed 'Accelerate' project. Daniel teaches Mechanics of Materials in the first year of the Aerospace Engineering Bachelor program. This academic year, Daniel revised the assignments to incorporate more sustainability into his course. To achieve this, he collaborated with the dream team Aerodelft, using their hydrogen plane as a case study; he worked with the AE Green Team, who developed additional sustainability content modules; and with PRIMECH who helped with developing interactive visuals and slides. Daniel will provide detailed insights into the process he followed, lessons learned, and refinements he aims to implement in the next academic year.

This event is open to anyone interested in incorporating sustainability topics in fundamental engineering courses, and in meeting other TUDelft Mechanics lecturers. As always, we will provide a free lunch!
