Procedures for becoming an exchange student

Following courses
As an exchange student or Erasmus exchange student (European programme), you may only follow courses from our Master’s programmes. Send in a signed and completed application form. Application forms will be sent on request, together with a housing application form.

The 4th and 5th-year courses (the MSc courses) are entirely in English and also available for exchange students. The undergraduate courses (BSc modules) in Delft are given in Dutch. These are the 1st, 2nd and 3rd-year courses, they are not available to exchange students.

Graduation project
You may like to do a part of your graduation project (4th and 5th-year students only) in one of our labs. This can be done in English.
Doing a project it is necessary to have a laboratory mentor. Please discuss your plans with a prospective mentor. Once you have reached agreement with him/her, enter your field of interest on the application form, together with the name of the mentor and send it in. (see below)
To see whether your field of interest is covered by research carried out in our labs, and to find a mentor look at the faculty website.

To be accepted as an exchange student at the EEMCS faculty
1.  The proposed programme of courses/projects must include EEMCS study points. The minimum number of study credits for stays of the following duration is:

  • 3 months, 15 ECTS
  • 6 months, 30 ECTS
  • 9 months, 45 ECTS
  • 12 months, 60 ECTS

These study credits must be from the 4th or 5th-year EEMCS Master’s courses, or from a graduation project (with the involvement of a supervisor). It is not possible to combine courses with a graduation project.

2.  The proposed programme must be entered on the application form and learning agreement.

3.  The application must be completed with a letter of recommendation from your international office.

English language requirements

As part of their application exchange students need to provide the following proof of their English language:

Please note that only nationals from the USA, U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada are exempt from the above language requirements.

TU Delft does not accept statements concerning the language ability of students from their teachers/professors or any other academic employees. Only the above tests are accepted as proof.

Bilateral contract
If there is a bilateral contract between our faculties, the exchange coordinator here can make the decision for the faculty whether you can study here or not. Registration as a bilateral agreement student here is free.

Deadlines
Deadlines are as follows, subject to all agreements with coaches/mentors, and the exchange coordinator being in possession of the application forms and housing application forms:

             Starting date (approximately)
                            deadline:

1 September                            01 May
1 November 1 August
1 February 1 November
1 April 1 January

Preparing your application
Once you have chosen your courses, and arrangements have been made with a mentor here, your institutional or departmental coordinator has to send in your signed and completed (Erasmus) application form together with your housing application form. Finding a room takes approximately 3 months so send in these forms as soon as possible. Note that your housing application will only be processed upon receipt of your TU application form. The EEMCS faculty does not look for accommodation for ‘free mover’ students.

Att: As we are currently expecting severe accommodation shortage due to the large inflow of regular (inter)national full time students be aware that we have only a limited number of rooms available for exchange student.

It is extremely difficult (almost impossible) for exchange students to find accommodation outside our housing agency in Delft themselves.

Upon receipt of your signed and completed application forms, the exchange coordinator will initiate the procedure.

There is no point in coming to Delft ahead of schedule you will not be registered.

Sending your application

Please follow the next procedure. This will assure us of the validity of the application:
Your institutional or departmental coordinator has to send in your signed and completed (Erasmus) application form/Learning Agreement together with your housing application forms. Please let send your applications by post, preferably by fax or PDF, or by any other electronic method, but always with the necessary signatures to the contact address below. Always confirm a fax by sending an e-mail. You will be informed about your accommodation by e-mail (this will be no later than about 2-4 weeks before your starting date).

After arriving in Delft, go first to the housing company involved (you will be given instructions), and then to the exchange officer’s office to register as a student.

Contact
Exchange students interested in the above are advised to contact the student exchange officer, Mrs. H. Pediz-Tekis (see also contact).
