Drawing

An Industrial Designer should be expected to be able to explain his or her ideas using sketches and drawings. Visual knowledge and skills turn out to be of great importance for the functioning of ID-engineers.

An industrial designer uses the medium of drawing intensively and professionally, among other things as a tool for communication:

  • for him- or herself, for instance as a means of inventarisation or delimitation of a problem statement: as a tool to extend the memory or the visual library, as a tool to be able to respond to ideas in a visually associative way
  • with colleagues who have knowledge of the visual jargon, such as fellow designers or fellow members of a design team
  • with clients, constructors, managers, and others as a tool for clear communication and presentation
