Sharing Experiences & Ideas to Stimulate Reflection in Education
a student-, lecturer- and organisation perspective.

By Linette Bossen & Hans Hellendoorn (ME)

  • How do we support students to become reflective?
  • How do we build a community of lecturers that support students to become reflective?
  • How do we implement reflective engineering in an integral way in a bachelor or master education programme?

In this 2h interactive seminar, we will be looking for experiences and ideas which stimulate reflection in our faculties, in our engineering curriculums, and in particular in our communities of students and teaching staff.

How to make one and another (more) aware of the value of a (more) reflective attitude? How to enhance awareness among lecturers that supporting students in deep(er) reflection, will make students better engineers? How to enhance awareness among students that time spend on reflection (on their products, on their research and design approaches, on their co-operation skills, on their personal development), will make them better engineers?

This seminar, introduced by professor Hans Hellendoorn and Linette Bossen (both from the faculty of ME), is part of the 100 days of… reflection programme organized by 4TU.CEE, LDE-CEL, TLS, and the Teaching Academy. Can we expand our Delft hands-on, let’s-do-this culture and mentality (also in education) with a more reflective one, to strengthen students in their learning? Learning by doing is 100% okay, but learning by reflecting on that doing is even better!

From which perspective do you want to think about reflective engineering? From a student perspective, a teacher perspective or from a management perspective? Let us know in your registration.
