Workshop ‘Delta Challenges’ 28 January 2016
Join the workshop ‘Delta Challenges’ on January 28 2016. Deltas are highly vulnerable to climate change and therefore a salient topic in adaptation science.
Deltas are also highly dynamic systems viewed from physical (erosion, sedimentation, subsidence), social (demographic), economic (trade), infrastructures (transport, energy, metropolization) and cultural (multi-ethnic) perspectives. The World Bank Shock Waves report shows that worldwide poorer people are more likely to be affected and loose relatively more than non-poor people when disaster hits. This is especially true for the urban poor, who are both vulnerable and most exposed to floods because they settle in less favourable and less protected areas of delta metropolises. Read more
This workshop is part of the congress Deltas, Ports of the Future: towards new synergy of Delta technology, Spatial Design and Governance, organized bij DIMI on Tour! in the Aula of the Delft University of Technology. This congress aims to discuss how we can develop ‘smart combinations’ of flood defense systems with other important societal issues. Information and registration
