Scientists from the Horizon2020 ENVISION project Mark de Reuver and Harry Bouwman received a SURF-grant for open and online education from the Dutch ministry of Education, Culture and Science. During the coming year, they will develop 5 online courses on business model innovation for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Business model innovation

Small and Medium Enterprises  in Europe increasingly have to rethink their business models to remain competitive but have ample knowledge about business model innovation (BMI). Nowadays, ICT-enabled tools to support business model innovation are increasingly available.

Online courses for 300,000 different SMEs

However, what is missing are dedicated online courses for this target group on how to use these tools and knowledge. Through the ENVISION network, 14 million small and medium enterprises can be reached via various dissemination channels like the Chambers of Commerce. Target of the surf project is that 300,000 different SMEs adopt the online courses during the project period. ENVISION also already provides an interactive platform and a vast repository of tools and case studies. The online courses will be published on the EdX- platform.
