QI: Paper Sjoerd Stallinga published in Optics Express
Researchers from the Imaging Physics department and from the University of Massachusetts, in a collaboration led by Sjoerd Stallinga, have published a paper in Optics Express [vol. 24, pp. 4996-5013, 2016] on the simultaneous measurement of emission color and 3D-position of single fluorescent molecules. By using diffractive optics in the microscope design they are able to encode information on the emission color and the axial position of the molecules in the shape and size of the measured spot on the camera. This new technique can be applied in super-resolution imaging or single molecule tracking of multiple fluorescent species in 3D.
