Bright new showcases at faculty library

Nieuws - 15 februari 2018 - Communication BK

The faculty library has been enriched with six brand new bright red showcases. The showcases were created by BK Alumnus Pieter Stoutjesdijk, based on a winning design by student Frederic Engasser. Connected to the behind lying books of the permanent collection, the showcases display a wide variety of research from different departments within BK City.

The showcases were designed as a part of the BSc-minor Architectural Engineering. Conceived by teacher Koen Mulder of Architectural Engineering and Technology, the students were asked to work with the possibilities of milling and folding of aluminium sandwich panels, creating both the design and a 1:1 construction knot for the showcases out of the material. Students created their designs over a period of two weeks and presented their work to the jury: Karin Clavel (central library), Henco Huibregtsen (faculty library), Pieter Stoutjesdijk (TheNewMakers), and Thijs Asselbergs (AE+T). The winning design by Frederic Engasser was engineered by Pieter Stoutjesdijk into a complete product constructed from CNC milled panels, fitted with lights to expand the showcase features.

The showcases are currently being filled by the different departments. The books and publications are given to the faculty library on loan for a period of at least a year, during which the books will remain on the showcases. As such, students, staff, and other library visitors have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the scientific work produced by the different departments.

An official opening of the new addition to the faculty library will be celebrated on Thursday, 8 March, 16.00.
