ZonMw grant for Elizabeth Carroll and Nicolò Ceffa

Nicolò Ceffa (postdoc) and Elizabeth Carroll have been awarded a grant from ZonMw to develop light sheet nanoscopy to detect and track the bioaccumulation of plastic nanoparticles in zebrafish.

Plastics are a major pollutant that can break down into particles small enough to enter animal cells and accumulate in the food chain. The project will investigate how particle shape (fiber vs. sphere) and route of exposure (skin vs. gut) impact animal health. Drs. Ceffa and Carroll will collaborate with ecotoxicologist, Prof.Dr. Martina Vijver (Leiden University).
