Felipe Chaves Gonzalez wint eerste prijs op Archiprix 2020
Met trots delen we mee dat BK alumnus Felipe Chaves Gonzalez de gedeelde eerste prijs op de Nederlandse Archiprix 2020 heeft ontvangen voor zijn project ‘Permeable borders - Addressing multidimensional conflicts between polarized communities in Rio de Janeiro’.
De winnaars van de Nederlandse Archiprix 2020, bestaande uit drie eersteprijs winnaars en twee eervolle vermeldingen, zijn op 26 juni bekend gemaakt door de jury. Over het project ‘Permeable borders - Addressing multidimensional conflicts between polarized communities in Rio de Janeiro’ van Felipe Chaves Gonzalez zegt de jury: "Dit afstudeerplan pakt een even relevante als complexe opgave op. Het doel is om de integratie van kwetsbare bewoners in Rio de Janeiro te verbeteren. De ontwerper slaagt op overtuigende wijze in zijn opzet met het een ontwikkelingsmodel voor de stad, inclusief een realistische en praktische toolkit om de stad te helen. Het voorstel excelleert op het gebied van strategische planning en meta planning."
Felipe zegt zelf over zijn winnende project “My project was a fantastic learning process that lasted little less than a year and was supported by great tutors, friends, local professionals and residents. Every step of the process, from theoretical research, case reviews and field trip, was very important to reach to the final product as it is. The research began with the idea to co-produce the project with the local residents and communities, however the barriers encountered in the field trip - concerning territorial conflicts, ecological disasters and political limitations – forced the project to be adapted to the local reality. At this moment the idea of the open project was implemented to overcome the limitations in the co-production process, allowing the actions to be self-developed by the communities.”
“It is an incredible feeling to the see the results of an extensive working process and to have my master thesis amongst the first prize winners of such a renowned and fierce competition such as Archiprix.This surely encourages me to keep pursuing my objectives to promote inclusivity and a ‘social urbanism’, oriented to city dwellers and communities living in precarious conditions, that are, in many cases, neglected in the development of the city.”

De gedeelde eerste prijs werd tevens toegekend aan de Academie van Bouwkunst Amsterdam alumna Charlotte van der Woude voor haar project ‘Nature is Under your Feet’ en aan de Academie van Bouwkunst Arnhem alumna Sarina Bleumink voor haar project ‘Living Monument’.
Het werk van alle dertig afstudeerprojecten inclusief maquettes en onderzoeksrapporten is van dichtbij te bekijken in de tentoonstelling Archiprix 2020 in Het Nieuwe Instituut tot 4 oktober 2020.
