On 7 March 2023 IDE Assistant Professor Annemiek van Boeijen received the 2023 Open Education Ambassador Award. The award was bestowed by the TU Delft Extension School in recognition of her commitment to openly sharing knowledge and educational resources with the world.

According to the Extention School: ‘We are grateful for your contribution to openness through the ProfEd Culture Sensitive Design Thinking, which you developed for both online and campus education with the intention of fostering cross-learning between practitioners and students. Additionally, you have encouraged participation from other educators so that lecturers in design schools around the world can in turn teach their own students, contributing to raising awareness of how cultural and social contexts influence design choices aimed at solving societal (global) challenges. Your involvement in the Delft Design Approach and the Delft Design Guide, which are published in OpenCourseWare, further demonstrate your commitment to open education.’

Annemiek would like to thank José Hekkens, IDE’s online education coordinator, for her commitment and everlasting support, Bea de Los Arcos of the Extension School for her great work ‘behind the curtains’, Chen Hao for her teaching role in the Culture Sensitive Design Thinking course, and, of course, all of the student assistants and other people who contributed. And lastly, she would like to mention Jaap Daalhuizen who, ten years ago, began tackling the challenge of teaching design online via the MOOC The Delft Design Approach, a comprehensive course through which Annemiek runs the - now legendary - Sofa Sessions.
