Analysis of material safety in use aboard hydrogen-fuelled ships
SAOS will be doing a sub-project as part of the larger program “H2Ship – Sustainable Hydrogen Integrated Propulsion Drives”. The contribution of SAOS will be to propose methods to model the failure of steel that are exposed to hydrogen during a crash. This modelling will include the modification of damage models to account for the effects of hydrogen embrittlement. It may also include modification of crash analysis methods to account for the highly localized brittle fracture phenomenon which may be enabled through exposure to a cryogenic fuel.
