Fast forming for fuel cell applications

Fuel cells will be an important component of future propulsion systems, and the bi-polar plate is an important component of this system. Madern ( has a concept for dramatically increasing the production speed of these critical components, but more needs to be understood. Toward that end, SAOS will perform research on how to predict spring-back and the limits of forming for very thin (50-80 μm thick) stainless steel parts. A particular point of attention will be performing these calculations for extremely high strain rates.
