Ionic Liquid-Refrigerant Mixture for Highly Efficient Absorption Heat Pump Systems

To overcome problems of crystallization in convention cycles and increase their efficiencies, ionic liquids are explored as the absorbents in NH3-based Vapor Absorption Refrigeration cycles. The project includes studies in aspects of the VLE assessment, advanced cycle modelling and heat & mass transfer analysis. Monte Carlo simulation is applied to extend the VLE properties. The studied NH3/ionic liquids cycles are proposed to apply in efficient heating (absorption heat pumps) and cooling (chillers driven by waste heat onboard fishing vessels) systems.
