Biography

I am a post-doctoral researcher at AiTech, leading the project Designing for Human Rights in AI. My aim is to pursue a multi-disciplinary design approach grounded in human rights and proactive engagement of societal stakeholders, in order to address a broad scope of ethical and social challenges arising from algorithms and AI, such as discrimination, unjustified action, data determinism, and job market effects of automation. I am also the author of the Data Crow Watch blog, in which I engage with the public on these topics.

My professional background and research interests span a number of disciplines, from signal processing, machine learning, and biomedical imaging to ethics of technology and design for values. I believe that the key to solving the complex challenges ahead is to cross the borders that traditionally separate technical, social, and legal domains in research, everyday practice, and education of future AI professionals.
