Architecture and Dwelling (Dutch Housing Studio)

Perspective view on social plinth along the waterfront

Tot nut van ‘t algemeen

Because of the reform in the Dutch (social)healthcare system back in 2015, more and more vulnerable people need to live independently as long as possible. These developments result in a demand of suitable dwellings for vulnerable target groups in which they could live independently and fully participate in society.

The research and design focusses on the implementation of social interaction and participation in an urban setting, on building scale as on neighbourhood scale. By investigating ways to stimulate social interaction and participation among the inhabitants, the project shows a suitable way of creating a stimulating living environment for socially vulnerable people in our complex society. By combining dwellings, working and social functions, the building aims to stimulate vulnerable people to live independent, interact and participate. These two aspects (social interaction & participation) are considered to be the most important requirements for independent and meaningful living for socially vulnerable target groups.
