Research interest

My main research interests are conditioning of models to data (data assimilation/parameter estimation/inversion), model simulation, and model-based optimization, with a particular interest in ensemble-based methods. I have applied such methods in the past to ocean models (global ocean tides and state estimation), and currently focus on subsurface flow models as used for closed-loop reservoir management, with applications to oil and natural gas production, CO2 storage, and geothermal heat recovery. Related topics include the construction of fast models through model order reduction and data-driven models. Activities on these topics are clustered in the Smart Fields theme at TU Delft.

Recent MSc projects

  • Wind-powered water injection in offshore oilfields
  • Optimization of radial jetted well design
  • Optimization of in-depth diversion strategies
  • Comparison of multi-model history matching methods
  • Life-cycle optimization of reservoir operating ranges
  • Simulation of in-depth water diversion
