Research

This project would examine current models for the effect of oil on foam and examine their implications for foam propagation and mobility in field application using a combination of simulation and experiments. It would refine and improve those models based on laboratory data. Conditions for stable foam with residual oil initially present will be investigated. In particular, experiments will be conducted to distinguish whether it is oil saturation or oil composition that is crucial to foam stability, and the interplay between the effects of oil and formation wettability followed by checking the suitability of current foam models to represent the laboratory results. Based on the existing foam models for the effect of oil on foam, means of incorporating effect of oil composition on foam stability into models will be developed. If time permits, this project will extend the studies above to oil-wet porous media.
