Cornelissen, P.

Profile

My research interests include modelling fluid flow and solute transport in porous media. I hold an MSc degree in Hydrogeology from Utrecht University and obtained my PhD degree at the Soil Physics group of Wageningen University, where I investigated topics such as reactive solute transport in soils and coupled electrokinetic flow and transport processes in charged porous media such as clay.

Research

Currently, I am focused on induced seismicity due to subsurface fluid injection or production. We develop a system-theoretical basis for the control of coupled flow and mechanics in faulted porous media, which is relevant for natural gas production, subsurface storage of carbon dioxide and hydrogen, and geothermal energy production.

Projects

I am involved in the Science4Steer project, which aims to develop a scientific basis for production and injection strategies to minimize induced seismicity in Dutch gas fields.
