Lodewijk de Vet

Profile

Lodewijk is a coastal researcher and advisor with a broad experience in coastal morphology. He obtained his MSc degree (cum laude) in 2014 in Coastal Engineering, mutually at Delft University of Technology and the National University of Singapore. Since 2014, Lodewijk has been working for Deltares. In 2020, he obtained his PhD degree (cum laude) with his dissertation “Intertidal Flats in Engineered Estuaries” at Delft University of Technology. Lodewijk still holds a part-time (0.4 FTE) postdoc position at Delft University of Technology on the project “Coping with Deltas in Transition”, in collaboration with the East China Normal University (Shanghai). In his projects, Lodewijk integrates insights from monitoring campaigns, long-term datasets and numerical models (e.g. Delft3D). He strives to support solutions for coastal systems (e.g. nourishments) with an understanding of the underlying anthropogenic and natural processes in these systems. Throughout his career, he has been working in various multidisciplinary teams, especially with ecologists and system managers. Lodewijk is pragmatic and has an eye for details. His aim is to benefit in coastal adaptation strategies from recent scientific insights.
