Inge van Tongeren
Profile
Inge obtained a MSc degree Climate Physics at Utrecht University in 2020. Her master research was named Modelling salt intrusion in an estuarine tidal network. Here, she used her passion for coastal systems and physics to generalize a model (originally for one tidal channel) to an estuarine network. In November 2020 she started her PhD on modelling salt exchange through shipping locks.
Research
Inge works on modelling salt intrusion through shipping locks. Salt intrusion is a highly relevant topic due to its influence on, for instance, the availability of drinking water, agriculture and ecology. Inge studies the specific role of shipping locks in salt intrusion. To do this, she works on developing a model, based on FINLAB (developed by Robert Jan Labeur), that simulates the process of salt exchange and dynamics in locks.
