Tess Wegman

Profile

Tess obtained both her bachelor and master degrees in Civil Engineering at Delft University of Technology. She obtained a masters degree of Hydraulic Engineering, where she specialized in Environmental Fluid Mechanics. Her master thesis project focussed on the potential of wave-shaped geometrical bed features, which can generate internal waves, as a salt intrusion mitigation measure. In March 2021 she started her PhD on salt intrusion processes in the Rotterdam Waterway.

Research

Tess works on salt intrusion processes in the Rotterdam Waterway as part of the SALTISolutions programme. Salt intrusion is a highly relevant topic due to its negative effects on the availability of drinking water, agriculture and ecology.

Tess studies the underlying physical processes which cause salt intrusion in the Rotterdam Waterway. By means of field surveys in the Rotterdam Waterway, she is aiming to provide an insight into the effect of forcing conditions at the river mouth and the mixing by non-hydrostatic physics on salt intrusion. Furthermore, Tess will investigate the potential of wave-shaped geometrical bed features as a salt intrusion mitigation measure.
