Erik van Berchum

Profile

Erik van Berchum graduated in 2014 with a master’s degree in Hydraulic Engineering and Flood Risk at the faculty of Civil Engineering of the TU Delft. His Master Thesis focussed on the use of Pumped Hydro Storage in salt caverns in the search for large scale energy storage. This research was carried out in collaboration with Royal HaskoningDHV and AkzoNobel. During his study, he was also involved in a master project at Water Resource University in Hanoi, Vietnam in order to design a water management plan for the province of Thua Thien-Hue.

Since 2015, Erik works as a researcher at the department of Hydraulic Structures and Flood Risk at TU Delft. His research is mainly focussed on quantitative risk assessment and risk-based design of regional flood defence systems in the Netherlands. This research is performed in collaboration with STOWA (Foundation of Applied Water Research).
