Hans van Duivendijk

Profile

Hans (Zierikzee, 1934) obtained his degree in civil engineering in 1958 at (what was then called) the Technische Hogeschool Delft. During his whole career he was active in hydraulic engineering projects at the consulting engineering firm Haskoning (now Royal HaskoningDHV) in Nijmegen. His work mainly concerned studies and management of large hydraulic engineering projects overseas. Within this context he carried out assignments in more than 20 countries. Apart from his work as a consulting engineer he was more than 20 years working in a part-time position at Delft University as associate professor in water power engineering and also active in international technical committees.

Research

The topic of Hans’ research is the study of the repair of dike breaches and closure of tidal channels by simple means. On the one hand this is a study of hydraulic engineering history (period 1200 – 1900) and on the other the application of these simple means in recent years in developing countries.
