Jantsje van Loon-Steensma

Jantsje van Loon has a background in environmental sciences, water management, aquatic ecology and water quality (MSc Environmental Studies at Wageningen University). She holds a PhD on the role of salt marshes for flood protection from Wageningen University. Her current research focuses on climate adaptation by integrating functions in flood protection zones. She combines hydraulic, ecological, geographical and economical aspects in the search for climate proof, robust flood protection that in addition to safety, also favour nature, landscape, heritage, recreation or economic values.

Within the BRIGAID project she contributes to the assessment framework with regard to environmental and ecological aspects. She is also employed at Wageningen University and Research, within the Water Systems and Global Change Group.  There she conducts research and lectures on adaptation measures as well as the possibilities to combine nature and landscape values with flood protection.
