Ir. A. (Anne) Poot, MSc.

Profile

After her BSc in civil engineering, Anne obtained a MSc degree in structural engineering at TU Delft, specialising in structural mechanics. For her master’s thesis, she was able to create a fracture mechanics model using an implementation of a new thick level set method. Currently, Anne is a PhD candidate, taking part in a collaborative effort by the TU Delft SLIMMLab to apply machine learning methods in the mechanical modelling of materials.

Research

The main focus of Anne’s PhD research project is the development of a fully probabilistic Finite Element Method. This means that, instead of a fully deterministic solution, a probabilistic solution will be obtained by propagating the uncertainty through the model. Based on the uncertainty in the solution, the locations in the model where refinement is most needed can be determined, which can be used to reduce computing time and power.
