Dr.ir. Martine van den Boomen MBA

Profile

Martine van den Boomen is a principal researcher in infrastructure life cycle management in the section Integral Design and Management. She obtained her PhD on replacement optimisation under uncertainty for public infrastructure assets in 2020. Martine graduated cum laude at the Delft University of Technology in 1996. In parallel, Martine has been appointed as applied research professor in asset management at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. Her other activity involves asset management consultancy. Martine is well known with the practical challenges of infrastructure life cycle management.

Research

My research addresses the time-variant economic optimisation of replacement and maintenance decisions. It deals with uncertainties on structural integrity, failure rates, external events, price increases and discount rates and acknowledges the managerial flexibility to optimise future decision as more information becomes available.

Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences
Professor in asset management and responsible for the applied research agenda in this domain. Major themes are resilient and adaptive infrastructures contributing to a sustainable, save and prosperous port city and its surroundings. Bridging research, education and practice.

Asset management consultancy
Over 20 years of experience in asset management consultancy including policy development, process implementation and decision support analyses among which establishing the long-term asset planning (CAPEX, OPEX), reliability analyses and LCC analyses. Martine reviews tender documents and verifies whether proposed system designs meet the clients’ performance requirements.
