About

The Department of Structural Engineering engages in research and education in the fields of integral and structural design for civil infrastructure and the structural design of buildings. The department implements three perspectives:

  • Science: the fundamental disciplines required to understand the behaviour of structures and materials
  • Engineering: studies how materials can be applied in structures
  • Design: what does design and the design process entail

The department’s activities provide a major contribution to societal themes such as asset management, new (sustainable) materials and their application in structures, and self-healing materials with a focus on sustainability.

The department maintains close ties with government and industry, and holds regular meetings with important partners. Watch an impression of the afternoon organised on 30 May 2013, at which the new professors presented themselves.
