Jawairia Imtiaz Ahmad

Jawairia Ahmad was born in Pakistan in 1986 and has been raised in both rural and urban parts of the largest province, Punjab and later she moved to Capital city Islamabad for completing her Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Environmental Sciences. She graduated with distinctions by achieving Silver Medal in her Bachelor of Environmental Science and President’s Gold Medal in Masters of Sciences. In research, she has been trained as a specialist in chemistry and microbiology of drinking and industrial waste water, where she gained experience in applying and practicing many microbial and molecular techniques for characterizing the drinking water inside distribution systems and effluent of textile industry. Later she has worked in Development sector for integrating science in climate change development projects and also, she was Lecturer at a university in Islamabad.

In 2015, she joined Department of Water Management as a PhD Researcher, focusing on Resource recovery (thermal energy: cold energy) from Drinking Water Distribution systems without deteriorating water quality. Her ambition is to integrate the idea of resource recovery from drinking water at larger scales for application in sustainable cities and circular economies. In order to fulfil the Sustainable Development goals 6 (clean water and sanitation), 7 (affordable and clean energy) and 11 (sustainable cities and communities).

In her free time, she loves to spend time with her family, travelling and reading books.
