Onderzoeksinteresses
Although Remko Uijlenhoet’s publications cover the full range of hydrological science, his main research interests are (1) the measurement and parameterization of the space-time variability of rainfall using ground-based remote sensing techniques and (2) the development of opportunistic sensing techniques as a novel way to inform hydrological science and applications (Keynote lecture “Opportunistic sensing – tapping into new sources of hydrologic information”, https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=Em2wvxwKxtM, from 10:10 to 18:55, AGU Fall Meeting 2019). His research group was among the first in the world to apply microwave links from cellular communication networks for rainfall monitoring (https://doi.org/10.1029/2006WR005631) and was the first to demonstrate that such networks can provide near real-time monitoring of the space-time dynamics of rainfall at the scale of an entire densely populated country (https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.1217961110).
Academische achtergrond
Remko Uijlenhoet is Professor of Hydrology & Water Resources in the Department of Water Management of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at Delft University of Technology.
