TPM and JRC-IET of the European Commission will intensify cooperation on research questions linked to the theme of energy transition as stated in a recently signed Letter of Intent (LoI). With this LoI JRC-IET and TPM further expand collaboration activities that already existed: exchanging PhD researchers, workshops, training and education.

Marcelo Masera, Head of Unit Energy Security, Systems and Market at JRC: “In TPM, as part of the TU Delft wide PowerWeb Initiative, we found a renowned partner to further expand the collaboration  in the field of energy systems research. The collaboration complements the policy context of our institution”.  Dr. Igor Nikolic, associate professor at TPM, is pleased that cooperation will be intensified: “JRC-IET is a valuable partner and we are confident that our united efforts will lead to synergies in research, education, policy analysis and overall societal impact”.

Key areas of collaboration

The collaboration will focus on several  key areas within the topic of socio-technical modelling of smart energy systems: application of agent-based modelling approaches of socio-technical systems in order to model the co-evolution between actors and institutions (habits, norms and legal frameworks), the role of prosumers and the evolution of retail markets and exploration of associate value aspects and value conflicts.
