News - 06 November 2017

At the department of Materials Science and Engineering of the Faculty of 3mE dr.ir. Arjan Mol is per 24 October 2017 appointed as full professor Corrosion Technology and Electrochemistry.

In 2000 Mol obtained his doctorate at Delft University of Technology on his study of filiform corrosion of coated aluminium alloys. Hereafter, Mol worked as project- and team leader Lifetime Performance of Lightweight Structures at TNO Built Environment before returning to Delft University of Technology in 2006, first as Assistant Professor, later as Associate Professor at the department of Materials Science and Engineering.

The research of Mol is aimed at the unravelling of local corrosion mechanisms, surface treatment of metals, interfacial bonding of polymer-metal(oxides) and performance of active protective coatings in application areas ranging from offshore to aerospace and micro-electronics to the automotive industry. An important research area is the investigation of alternatives to hexavalent chromium based surface treatment and coating technologies for eco-friendly and safe corrosion protection of metals, see also recent TU Delft News. Furthermore, Mol is currently Vice-President of the European Federation of Corrosion EFC, Honorary Professor at the University of Science and Technology Beijing in China and Editor-in-Chief of Elsevier’s Corrosion Science.
