On August 1st Dong Zhang started his PhD on our Delphi project. His supervisor is Eric Verschuur.
In current 3D seismic imaging projects the appearance of strong surface multiples, especially in shallow water, is a major problem. Therefore, for optimum use of the seismic measurements, the surface multiples need to be reliably estimated and separated from the other arrivals, such they can both be used in imaging.
With a closed-loop process we envision to accurately predict those surface multiples, as demonstrated in previous projects. Still, the sparse sampling of the seismic data is a major limitation in practice. Therefore, in this project we will use the recently developed full wavefield migration as an optimum tool for integrated data reconstruction and multiple estimation.
