News - 14 March 2017

On Friday March 10th Lotte Leufkens TU student and founder of CloudCuddle, was named entrepreneur of the year 2017 in the Dutch finals of the Global Student Entrepreneur Award. Along with eight other Dutch student entrepreneurs they pitched to a jury of student entrepreneurs, experienced entrepreneurs and scale-up entrepreneurs. In May, Lotte will represent the Netherlands in the worldwide finals in Frankfurt.

The best idea

According to the jury and the audience Lotte was the best because she as an entrepreneur has passion and enthusiasm for her product. "She takes care of families that have many concerns," the jury said. The CloudCuddle is a bed specially designed for children with physical and / or intellectual disabilities. It gives parents the freedom to let their child sleep anywhere safely.

The prize of ten thousand euros that Lotte won will benefit CloudCuddle. In addition, the startup can count on professional guidance from experienced entrepreneurs. During the international final in Frankfurt 50 student entrepreneurs from 50 countries will compete.

CloudCuddle was founded in March 2016 by Lotte Leufkens and Francesca Lucas. The idea for a secure, mobile sleeping environment for children with physical and / or mental disabilities arose during the minor Biomechanical Engineering in 2014. Lotte Leufkens and Francesca Lucas decided to develop their idea further and set up a company when it appeared that several families are in need of a proper solution.

CloudCuddle has been testing the first prototypes in family homes from November 2016, which has led to very positive reactions. At this point durability and ease of use are more extensively tested at the time and the preparations for the first production are in full swing. It is expected that these first CloudCuddles are delivered this summer, so the first families can still travel during the summer vacation.
