Developing low-carbon solutions for clean growth

Clean Growth represents a unique opportunity for increasing our economic prosperity, while cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Sector roadmaps have evidenced the specific technologies required, including carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS). However, significant bottlenecks still exist for CCUS industrial deployment. A critical pathway for unlocking decarbonisation is the development of clusters, as they bring the benefits of technology integration and resource optimisation, and therefore, leading to significant costs reduction. In this talk, I will present some of our on-going low-carbon research programmes at the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions (RCCS), including optimisation of capture technologies and their integration into low-carbon systems for chemicals and fuels production. Finally, realising the opportunities for industrial decarbonisation requires timely strategic international partnerships, and therefore, opportunities for collaboration will also be discussed.

The e-Refinery initiative is a partnership between four faculties: AppliedSciences, 3mE, EWI and TPM. Researchers in the e-Refinery initiative focustheir research on the electrochemical conversion of sustainable electricity intofuels and chemical building blocks, from the molecular scale to large-scalesystem integration. E-Refinery hosts a lunch lecture every first Tuesday of themonth.
