Every year, the Dutch Ministry of Internal Affairs awards the best master thesis on the housing market. Janneke Michielsen, alumna of the faculty of TBM, was awarded the first prize. The second prize was awarded to alumnus Martijn Nawroth, who graduated with a thesis on future proofing the housing stock of the municipality of Zoetermeer.

Janneke Michielsen graduated from the faculty of TBM with research into the relation between the phenomena of Buy-to-Let and the rise of housing market prices in regional Dutch housing markets. Her research was conducted in collaboration with the Kadaster and mentored by Harry Boumeester (OTB). Martijn Nawroth also made use of the expertise of OTB, being mentored by professor Peter Boelhouwer.

The annual award has been introduced to stimulate scientific research into the housing market. This year, 26 theses were submitted. The winning theses were selected based on their scientific quality, the originality of the chosen theme and applied methodology, and the governance relevance of the theme.
