AMS Institute shows innovations to king Willem-Alexander and president of Singapore

News - 06 December 2018

During the state visit of the president of Singapore Halimah Yacob last month to the Netherlands, the Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions has presented their solutions for urban challenges to president Yacob and king Willem-Alexander. Delft University of Technology is one of the academic partners of AMS Institute.

Together with Waternet and a selection of start-ups, AMS Institute was invited to share their innovations to the king and president at Prodock, an innovation hub for start-up companies. It proved a great opportunity to share AMS Institute’s expertise in the area of circular economy and resource recovery.

Arjan van Timmeren, scientific director of AMS Institute, introduced the delegation to the Roboat research project. He explained how the city of Amsterdam offers the ideal environment to expand its current infrastructure with the deployment of autonomous vessels, alleviating pressure from the relatively small but busy city centre and restoring the historic purpose of the Amsterdam canals: providing access to the inner city.

The president and the king were thereafter invited to experience what the future canals could look like with Roboat through an augmented reality experience at the pop-up Roboat exhibition.
