News - 12 September 2019 - Communications BK

The second Jorma Vitkala Award of Merit was awarded to the professor of Architectural Glass for his contributions to the development of glass applications within the field of architecture.

The jury especially praises the fact that O’Callaghan not only pushes the boundaries of architectural glass, but that he also passes on his knowledge to students. “All 28 nominees push the boundaries, but O’Callaghan stands out. His many beautiful applications of glass, in which he redefines the boundaries, but especially the fact that he transfers his knowledge to young students, are exemplary,” explains Jan-Paul Hautekeer, chairman of the nomination committee. “The application of glass will remain in the picture among designers, industries and research institutions through continuous innovative advances and bold new solutions. The Award is our special tribute to leading people who contribute to the development of the glass industry.”

The Jorma Vitkala Award was presented for the first time in 2017, to Jorma Vitkala. He is the intiator and organisar of the GPD glass conferences. The Award was created a result of his retirement. Read more here (Dutch only).
