Our Taal @ DRONGO prize for ‘Healthy storytelling’

News - 30 October 2019 - Communication

On Saturday 26 October a prototype of the Bal & Spriet Game won the first prize at the DRONGO talenfestival (language festival).

The aim of the Ball & Spriet Game is to make weight negotiable and to reduce the, often implicit, prejudices. This game is the first demonstrator from the Healthy Storytelling project (led by IDE researchers Niko Vegt, Annemiek van Boeijen and Valentijn Visch), where storytelling techniques are used, to design eHealth for obesity prevention.

Various external scientific experts are connected to this ZonMw-funded project, in the field of storytelling (Wilbert Spooren of Radboud University), eHealth (Andrea Evers from Leiden University) and obesity (Liesbeth van Rossum from Erasmus MC), as well as Pharos foundation, About Weight, center Healthy Weight and & RANJ.

The jury, which consisted of a delegation from Onze Taal (an association for language lovers) and from DRONGO talenfestival itself, was charmed by the lab. This is because they have developed a game based on storytelling research to make people aware of stigmatising situations related to obesity. They presented the prototype of that game in a lab. The researchers win a science communication masterclass, provided by the editors of Onze Taal.
