Best paper award for Boriana Rukanova and Yao-Hua Tan for the most innovative research contribution

TPM researchers dr. Boriana Rukanova and prof. Yao-Hua Tan won the Best Paper Award at the EGOV-CeDEM-ePart 2019 conference in Italy on 2-4 September 2019. The title of the paper is “Value of Big Data Analytics for Customs Supervision in e-Commerce” and the paper was awarded Best Paper Award in Category 1- The most innovative research contribution or case study which is given to the paper with the most out-of-the‐box and forward-looking idea and concept. 

In the paper the authors present a value analysis method to assess the applicability of data analytics for risk assessment of safety and security of international supply chains. This research is carried out in the context of the PROFILE Horizon 2020 project which uses Living Labs to develop and test big data analytics solutions for customs and PEN-CP Horizon 2020 EU Project which focusses on setting-up a customs innovation network in the EU. 

The paper was written with co-authors Micha Slegt and Marcel Molenhuis (Customs Administration of The Netherlands), Ben van Rijnsoever (IBM Nederland BV), and  Krunoslav Plecko, Bora Caglayan, and Gavin Shorten (IBM Ireland).
