In spring of 2019, the kilogram will be redefined for the first time in 130 years. The unit is currently based on a physical prototype stored in a high-security vault in Paris. Weights all over the world are derived from this single kilogram. In response to the historic event of the kilogram’s redefinition, two exhibitions about the history of standardisation are presented at the TU Delft’s Central Library and Aula.

On the occasion of the exhibitions, a symposium was organised on 24 January highlighting the roles of standardisation in shaping technology and on individual scientists in defining standards – giving special attention to the historical involvement of TU Delft. Geerten van de Kaa gave a presentation on standardisation for cyberphysical systems.
