On March 18th the annual VTI Research Day took place for all VTI-employees. This year’s theme was funding opportunities.Several workshops and presentations and even a competition was held. Our new professor Safety in Healthcare Jop Groeneweg provided a keynote. Professor Ibo van de Poel presented funding opportunities focused on the research of our department.

Competition
A competition was held in which staff was asked to write a research proposal for an upcoming call and to also present it. The proposals were judged by a jury consisting of professor Caspar Chorus (of the department ESS) and associate professor Bram Klievink (of the department MAS). The winning proposal (out of 5 proposals)  “Designing AI for meaningful work” will receive support in applying for funding. PhD students joined a workshop in which they played a game to learn more about each other’s research. Pengfei Chen of the Safety and Security Science section won the vote for best pitch out of four contestants with his research on “Ship-ship collisions in ports and waterways”. We look back on a fruitful day.
