MSc. Elective course Art, Empathy & Ethics at X

News - 30 August 2019 - Communication

In the new academic year, master students can take a relatively new elective course: Art, Empathy & Ethics at X. This elective course (4 ECTS) invites you to experience and produce art rather than to broaden your knowledge in contemporary art or history of art. Under the supervision of a professional artist and using the tools and media suggested by the artist you will develop an art project around an ethical or a societal problem related to the design and use of technology as well as the access to such technologies around the globe.

Any new technology has an impact on society that is not always predictable. The response of society to significant new technologies is, therefore, accompanied by a debate that is not only ethical: it has also an emotional component that translates the consumers fears, hopes, etc. The course AS3131- “Art, Empathy & Ethics” brings the students to the atelier where, through the process of “creating art like an artist”, they generate their own original ethical, debatable questions.
