Affordable sustainable housing

The new H2020 RE-DWELL project will train a new generation of academics and professionals to address the urgent need of affordable and sustainable housing, a major challenge for European societies. The large research project involves ten different universities and an innovative education programme across Europe.

To date, affordability and sustainability of housing have been addressed separately, from various disciplinary perspectives such as architecture, planning, engineering, economics, and sociology. However, practice indicates that affordability and sustainability of housing are complementary and in need for a transdisciplinary approach.

The REDWELL project includes ten universities, 15 PhD projects and an innovative education program across Europe. The project was selected for funding within the extremely competitive ITN Marie Curie 2020 grant by the European Commission. Marja Elsinga represents TU Delft in the management of the project. Marietta Haffner, Joris Hoekstra and Gerard van Bortel play key roles in supervising the two TU Delft-based PhD-projects and developing the innovative training programme.
