Keeping cool in intensive care

News - 08 April 2020 - Communication

Much has been said about the lack of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for doctors and nurses treating corona patients. For those doctors and nurses performing their duties in the right protective clothing, working conditions can become rather warm. With this in mind, a number of hospitals are being provided with cooling vests developed at IDE.

The vests, originally intended for Dutch athletes destined for Tokyo 2020, are just one of the outputs of the Thermo Tokyo research project.  The project, which has brought together a number of universities with sports federations and companies, focuses on helping athletes keep their cool in the heat and humidity of Tokyo in summer.

With the recent decision to postpone the Olympics, the Dutch sports organisation NOC*NSF has made the vests available to intensive care doctors and nurses.
