New Chair of Department of Sustainable Design Engineering (SDE)

After a five year term leading the Department of Sustainable Design Engineering (SDE), Professor Peter Vink will be succeeded by Professor Alessandro Bozzon.

Alessandro who takes on the role from 1 November, comments: “It is with great pleasure and humbleness that I take over the role of head of the department from Peter Vink. It’s little more than a year since I joined SDE, but it’s been enough time for me to experience and appreciate the fantastic and vibrant atmosphere that Peter has helped develop. SDE is now a strong department, and my primary mission is to help it grow even stronger through an increasing focus on scientific and societal impact.”

Peter reflects: “It has been a wonderful experience. I started out at a time of great change but we have been able to build a flourishing department with ambitions in the fields of sustainability, materials, manufacturing, Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. Of course there are still many things to improve and I wish Alessandro every success in the next steps.”

And Peter’s plans for the future? As well as more research on the question of comfort, he looks forward to more time teaching, something which he professes to love. If you want to see IDE’s own King of Comfort in action, don’t miss TEDX Amstelveen on Sunday 8 November, when Peter will be talking about the seamless travel experience offered by the Flying V.
