Bert van Wee, Niek Mouter, Ruth Shortall and other scientists from TU Delft and VU University Amsterdam will conduct research into the economic and logistical consequences of the 1.5 meter society for passenger mobility.

In doing so, they look at various reduction scenarios of corona measures that are possible and obvious for the transport sector with social distancing. This could include combinations of distance keeping, rearrangement of the public road, individual measures such as masks, and collective protective measures such as transparent separation shields in public transport and in airplanes.

The study focuses on aviation, the road network, public transport, cycling and walking. Among other things, the Delft researchers make an overview of exit scenarios and policy measures that are implemented and proposed in other countries. Together with Dutch policymakers, they select promising options for the Dutch context. These options are then assessed by the Dutch population in a Participative Value Evaluation.

The research was granted by NWO and ZonMw within the framework of the COVID-19 programme that is funding research to limit the negative consequences of the pandemic and to utilise negative and positive experiences as quickly as possible for practical solutions.
