A 3 Million milestone!

News - 17 November 2020

As faculties and supporting departments strive to continue to provide excellent education to our students remotely and, where possible, on campus, it is great to celebrate offering high quality education also to lifelong learners and working professionals – This month we reached 3 Million enrolments in TU Delft’s online (MOOC) courses!

This new milestone in our University’s support of quality higher education for all is only possible thanks to the efforts of our dedicated and innovative lecturers – Thank you and congratulations!

The online courses currently on offer from TU Delft comprise not only a wide range of MOOCs but also other formats, including Professional Certificate Programs (PCPs). These are designed to specifically address the needs of working professionals to support them in remaining relevant in their field and in on-demand subjects – ranging from health to energy transition to quantum computing, from sustainable cities to complex decision making to the circular economy.

For example, coming up in the next couple of weeks are PCPs Electric Cars and AI in Practice. Electric Cars was co-developed by TU Delft experts and the Dutch Innovation Centre for Electric Road Transport (Dutch-INCERT) to give professionals a comprehensive view of all aspects of electric mobility – including vehicles, infrastructure, business models and policy. As the importance of e-cars grows in the energy transition era, this successful program already counts the highest number of PCPs certificates and over 130k enrolments. As highlighted in a previous article, it is now also available in Spanish.

AI in Practice is brand new. One of the latest additions to the portfolio, it is for anyone who, regardless of their professional background or job role, is interested in learning how to develop a plan for the application of AI in their organization. Unlike other courses on the market, this program does not focus on maths and programming but rather on helping learners to recognise AI’s benefits and implications and to integrate it in their daily processes. It unites TU Delft’s expertise with ideas and case studies for actual situations based on the latest AI research conducted in the Research Labs of the Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI) in the Netherlands, with contributions from companies such as ING, Ahold Delhaize, Elsevier, KPN and Thirona.
