News - 29 June 2020 - Communication ImPhys

Daan is an experimental physicist working at Delmic, who will join ImPhys for about 3 years to work on a so-called industrial PhD position.

At Delmic, Daan as leading the design of a new cryogenic integrated fluorescence and focussed ion beam scanning electron microscope (FIB-SEM). Under Jacob’s supervision, Daan will explore new techniques for high-precision three-dimensional localization of fluorescently labelled proteins in cryo-frozen cells and the subsequent milling of a ~100nm thin lamella out of the cell for cryo-electron tomography at almost atomic resolution. For the cryo-microscopy, Daan and Jacob collaborate with the group of Arjen Jakobi at Bionanoscience.
