New: Online TU Delft summer course Pre-University Physics (start 3 August)

News - 16 July 2020 - Communication TNW

Never before have technology and innovation been so central to our society. Physics allows us to understand both simple everyday phenomena and the latest technologies: from guitar music to the 5G network. Physics is therefore indispensable for many educational programmes and other disciplines.

Monday 3 August 2020 will see the start of the free online Pre-University Physics course for prospective students who are starting a programme in which knowledge of physics plays an important role. This course gives a new perspective on what has been learned in secondary school and gives a glimpse into the way the university works. Every week a new module is released.

About the course
During this online course prospective students can become acquainted with the university's approach to physics in an accessible way: more abstract and mathematical. At the same time it gives them the opportunity to refresh their knowledge of physics at pre-university level. The course takes four weeks and consists of three modules: mechanics, electricity & magnetism, and waves. Participants will learn how to apply the material to solve physics problems. After this course, prospective students can be sure that they are well prepared for their studies.

Structure of the course
Each module consists of several parts. Each component starts with one or two short videos in which the theory is explained and examples are worked out. After this, the prospective student can start doing practice assignments, during which experienced students of Applied Physics from Delft University of Technology can be asked questions online. Each part concludes with an insight into the university, an inspiring video or a Do-It-Yourself home assignment.
